April 14- 20, 2019

Sunday:
On Sunday, we had some friends over to play. I took the two little ones to fill up our neighborhood free pantry and to play on the playground while the big kids played dress up and video games. It was a pretty simple, easy day.

Monday;
Monday was The Blessing Place for Liam and shopping/errands for Dexter, Salem and me, but that evening was the very last Cub Scout meeting for the school year. The boys received all their final badges and were then promoted! Liam is now an Arrow of Light and only one year away from being a Boy Scout and Dexy-K is a Tiger. One of the requirements Liam had to meet to be promoted was earning his cyber-safety badge. He had to take an online course all about staying safe online and has since, on several occasions, told me things he learned from the course. He has also fully memorized both the scout oath and law. The law was a little bit tricky for him to learn, but Papa put on some classical music while he studied it and, as he put it, "It sure is easy to memorize things with old violin music playing in the background." He definitely nailed it though and has retained it as he generally receites it once or twice a day. Now...if only we could start implementing it a bit around here. I wuold love to see that scout cleanliness!

Tuesday:
Tuesday was a weird day as we were road tripping to Nashville for a Vanderbilt appointment for Rory and did not even have time for an educational stop along the way! Basically, the boys sat in the car a lot, and then sat in waiting rooms, restaurants, and back into the car for the entire day. They handled it all like rockstars. Thank God for iPads.

Wednesday:
We spent Wednesday recovering from Tuesday and I did not even take a single picture.

Thursday:
On Thursday, Liam asked to work on video editing. He seemed to have lost interest in this particular hobby for awhile but spent a couple of hours on it that morning. Dexter used the time to read, make art, and play. We observe our caterpillars growing every day! When I head out to do some yard work, I discover a lizard on the porch and the boys come to check him out. When Liam grew tired of the computer we pulled out our Little Explorers boxes for the month. Liam decided to make his lung model from his science box and Dexter's box was all about Egypt this month. He had a pyramid with a mummy to "excavate" and he really enjoyed that. We also found Egypt on his world map and added all his stickers to his passport, etc.

After we got Rory from school we met friends to play at the park and have dinner at Chick-fil-a. The boy's played outside with the neighbors for a long time when we got home and then had a fun bath with glow sticks before getting to bed a bit late.

Friday:
On Friday, our first Highlights magazine arrived. I decided to subscribe to Highlights and National Geographic Kids because the kids really seem to love it when their Boy's Life magazine arrives every month. They read the stories and articles and have a lot of fun with it. I thought Highlights would be a good "literary" magazine and Nat-Geo a good "science" option. So far, they are really enjoying it. I did not see the kids much after that though because a friend came over to play and spend the night and they were having a great time the whole day just playing!

Saturday:
On Saturday, Dexter helped make pancakes and our caterpillars started hanging upside down getting reading to form their cocoons, but, otherwise, it was quite a lazy, lounging sort of day. We were going to go to an egg hunt but the weather was too yucky so we ended up staying in and watching movies together instead!
