March 31- April 6, 2019
To be honest, last week was a struggle and this week isn't shaping up to be so great either. My motivation has lagged; with the nice weather outside and the spring cleaning bug biting me hard, it is hard to stay mindful of learning. Spring fever or something has bitten the boys as well because everyone has been wild and out of sorts.
Sunday
Sunday was a really good day! We went to see the children's theatre production of The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Liam, Dexter and Rory were all enthralled and when it was over both Liam and Dexter expressed an interest in acting classes. I looked it up and the theatre center offers them for both their ages, but we just missed the spring session- I will sign them up for a summer camp and then classes in the fall. In the meantime, they have asked to take dance classes while they wait!
After the play, we headed out to dinner for Aunt Leslie's birthday. While we waited for our food, Dexter filled out the kid's placemat that had lots of information about Italy on it. Just goes to show you, learning happens everywhere!
Tuesday
Tuesday was sort of a funny day. We planned a day trip to Knoxville. The boys chipped in to help me with my daily chores to get them done faster and we headed out! We got about halfway there when I remembered that Pops was coming to visit! We had to turn around and come home. The boys ended up visiting with Pops and playing Minecraft all afternoon while I visited with Pops. They were good sports about the whole thing. They did receive some new Wild Kratts costumes from some cousins in Nashville and enjoyed playing with them that afternoon. Liam also has been learning some new songs on the piano! I am still so amazed at how quickly he picks up new songs by ear. I struggle with knowing whether or not he would benefit from formal lessons. He tends to resist any help offered by his dad, who also plays the piano, so I worry that formal lessons would just end up squashing his desire and love of music. Right now, the piano is where Liam heads any time he is feeling out of sorts, frustrated, bored, tired, confused, overwhelmed, etc. He will sometimes stop what he is doing in the middle of doing it and wander off... ten seconds later we will hear the Charlie Brown theme song or a Bendy and the Ink Machine tune wafting in from the activity room. I would really hate to inadvertently take that away from him through formal training. I also recognize that he has a pretty incredible raw talent that may need some guidance. This is something we will need to continue talking about.
While we had a lot of great experiences this week, it still felt like an "off" week, just because we did not have much time to slow down and reflect and discuss the things we did and saw. I have started on an exercise journey too and that is taking some adjustment as I get used to losing a couple of hours of my day and time with the boys to work on my health. We will get used to it but for now, between the beautiful weather, the fun things to do, and new activities, I am feeling a little bit scattered. As I write this, it is already three days into the next week... and it hasn't gotten much better. In fact, today was a really ROUGH day...but we will find our rhythm again. We always do!

Monday
On Monday, Liam was at The Blessing Place so Dexter and I did our shopping and errands. He is a very patient and sweet helper and I cannot discount the learning that happens as he helps me locate and purchase our weekly groceries. When we got home, we noticed the power was out and a breaker had tripped in the breaker box. Dexter learned a little bit about how the electricity in the house works and then helped me fix the tripped breaker. He also played some video games. Cub Scouts was that night!

Wednesday
On Wednesday, we attended a birthday party in the afternoon- I did not get any pictures- and then Liam headed over to the birthday child's house for a sleepover. Prior to that, we did some Cosmic Kids Yoga...which I did get pictures of!
Thursday
We picked Liam up bright and early on Thursday morning and finally made that trip to Knoxville! We have been listening to a pretty neat audiobook and we listened to it the entire way there. We had lunch and ice cream and then headed to The Muse Knoxville for some science fun!
Friday
On Friday, we had some new friends over to play. I am so sad I did not grab any pictures as the kids had a blast playing in the backyard with the hose and in the mud pit! We just relaxed at home and free-played with friends... and then when Papa got home, we headed to the drive-in to see Shazam and How to Train Your Dragon 3. Rory had his first solo sleepover at grams house since we knew a movie outside is not Rory's idea of a good time. The kids were beside themselves with excitement. We try to go to the drive-in at least once a year, but I have a feeling we will be back again this summer!
Saturday
Saturday was the Crabtree Farms plant sale. We were watching a friend while his mom was a vendor at the sale, so the boys just played together until it was time to head to the sale. We got lots of plants for our garden, enjoyed some nice music and even saw some brand-new baby lambs.
